STAFF

Matthew was born and raised in Skagit County, graduated from Mt Vernon High School and grew up playing in the local Sunday leagues. He owns a staffing and recruiting company in Mount Vernon. He graduated from the University of Puget Sound with his Bachelor’s degree.

 

Matthew’s passion for the game grew out of those same Sunday leagues where the majority of the players were from Latin America. The playing style of the teams he coaches reflect that influence.

 

Matthew has been a part of the local soccer community for 30+ years. He was an assistant coach for the Skagit Valley College Women’s program in 1999 and 2000 before becoming the head coach from 2001-2003.  He has coached at NW United since 2010, both boys and girls teams. Previous to SVC, he coached from 1997-2000 for FC Arlington, a GU19 girls division 1 team. They made back to back state semi-final appearances in 1999 and 2000

Matthew isMarried to Iliana Youngsman, with three kids Montserrat, Jonathan and Sophia. His hobbies include playing, watching and coaching soccer. He also enjoys watching American Football and reading books. He graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. He is bilingual (English and Spanish)
