G02 Mikhaela Cortez Verbally Commits To UTSA Road Runners!

Playing premier soccer and striving to play at the highest level can be a huge challenge and commitment. It takes dedication and focus to achieve a high level of success both on the and in the classroom. Northwest United is thrilled to announce that Mikhaela Cortez has achieved this success as she has made a verbal commitment to play Division 1 College Soccer at the University of Texas San Antonio!

Mikhaela, Class of 2020, will be moving to Texas to play in Conference USA for the UTSA Road Runners! Alongside her sporting achievement, Mikhaela plans to study either biology or chemistry to work towards becoming a psychiatrist. While attending UTSA, she also plans on exploring the possibility of coaching at the collegiate level.

Our Director of Coaching, Kristian Powell, believes her dedication and competitive traits are some of the many reasons she has reached the D1 level. He also believes these traits will continue to push her to achieve even greater success.

“Mikhaela has been a remarkable player for the club and it’s been exciting to watch her progression over the 4 years since she arrived at Northwest United at U12. It’s hard to find a better competitor than her. She's an athlete and over the years has really excelled in her technical ability to make her a brilliant soccer player and I have no doubt she will be successful wherever she goes. Mikhaela identified Northwest United from a young age and their whole family put good faith and trust in the club to hone and develop her skills. It really is exciting to see her get the rewards for all the hard work and dedication she has put in herself through to reach the Division 1 standard at the Collegiate level. She's a very popular girl on her teams and is the driving force that can really make everyone around her play better. We believe her leadership and dedication will not only help her have success, but the players around her as well”.

Mikhaela is another member of the Northwest United Girls’ and Showcase programs that have gone on to have success over the last 2 years. Delaney Watson and Jennifer Turnek have both moved onto Division 1 schools, with Avery Carson moving to the Seattle Reign FC Academy. We are proud of the commitment and success our girls are showing to reach the next level.

A huge congratulations to Mikhaela on your success, dedication and achievements! We wish you all the best!
