Managers: Basic Information on League Play

To Managers from Jame

A few of you have asked how you contact teams to find out when and where you will play.  Chuck (our field registrar) will hand out your home time game schedule with fields at the Labor Day Kick.  Double check it with the league schedule and make sure the dates match (they usually do unless the league has made changes recently).

After you have your schedule, email each team that you will be playing and let them know when and where their away (our home) games will be.  A sample letter is below.   This way, teams can get information out to their teams quicker.  I have found that if I give teams the info for our home games, they tend to get me their schedule for our away games faster.

If you need to make changes to your schedule after it is set, contact Duane Henson–our referee assignor.  In addition to making the changes in ref assignments, Duane–not Chuck–will handle changes to the field reservations.    You mus give Duane 2 weeks, notice to make changes to your schedule.  After that it will cost your team $10/change.  If you wait till 1 week before the game it will cost $50 and if you wait till within 48 hours it will cost $100.  It is a pain to change games after refs have been assigned and fields are scheduled.  This is a good reason to get info out to teams early, in case they would request the change.

For the game day:  Each team is supposed to have a ref on their team (parent or player).   Have this person, go to the ref website and make sure you have 3 refs assigned to your match.  I tend to email the other team a few days before as a friendly reminder of when our game is (this might be overkill).  Make sure you get either cash (preferable) or a check from your treasurer.  You are responsible for paying refs at the field for all home games.

  • u14 and under are $35/center and $17.50/AR.
  • Be sure you give the exact amount.   Fill out a WSYSA roster sheet, get these from Duane at the Labor Day Kick, or they should be mailed to you along with your players cards.
  • Hand your complete game card (official roster sheet) to the refs along with your player cards.
  • Be sure that at the end of the game you get player cards, a copy of yours and your opponent’s roster sheet, and pay the coaches (if your at home).
  • Be aware that not all clubs use 3 refs.  As long as there is a center ref you can and should play your game.  Some refs allow parents to be AR’s(another reason that a parent should be a licensed ref) but it is up to the center ref.

I hope this helps and makes your league play easier.  If you have questions feel free to ask someone from the board or another manager.  This is when our jobs get busy so we need to help each other out and work together so things run smoothly.
